An Interview with Greg Grunberg

When we last saw Matt Parkman on Heroes, he had used his psychic powers to help vanquish Sylar. The preview of Vol. 5 suggested that Sylar is already starting to emerge from the body of Nathan Petrelli, despite Parkman's best efforts. As season four, Vol. 5 continues, Sylar lingers on in Parkman's mind, too, said actor Greg Grunberg.

(Warning: Spoilers ahead.)

"When we come back in season four, you see that this transfer of brains or whatever didn't go smoothly, and remnants of Sylar are left behind in me," Grunberg said in an exclusive interview on Aug. 5 in Pasadena, Calif., as part of the Television Critics Association fall press tour. "He's in my subconscious and I can't control him. Then he starts to control me, which is very, very cool."

Sylar's already got Nathan's body. Does he get Parkman's, too? "Well, he's in my head," Grunberg explained. "No one else can see him but me, so he's in scenes with me. It's very cool."

Zachary Quinto continues to play Sylar, in Parkman's vision of Sylar's presence. Grunberg also revealed some of Sylar's dirty deeds. "[He] kidnaps my child to get his body back. It's that kind of stuff, and it's very personal and much more relatable, I think."

That must mean Sylar uses Nathan's body to kidnap Parkman's daughter, right? No, said Grunberg. That's a separate thing while Sylar plays the brain game with Parkman. Don't worry about following the complicated storyline. Grunberg said it all makes sense.

"It's very easy to follow, actually, my storyline," Grunberg said. "It's cool how it's done. I love it because it's more character-based. The show became all about saving the world, and it's very abstract. It's kind of hard to grasp that. What does that mean? It's very spectacular, and it's fun, but then if you do it every week, it doesn't mean anything. And if everybody has powers, it doesn't mean anything. So this year it's kind of getting back to season one, where it's all about the characters just wanting to be real and normal. I don't want this power, I don't use it, and I'm forced to use it because Sylar's doing anything [he can]."

Grunberg has been enjoying the team-up with Quinto so much that he hopes Sylar never gets out of Parkman's head. "I went to the writers, I was talking to them tonight, and I was like, 'Guys, please don't end this. Don't resolve this, because we're having so much fun.' What's cool is that my powers evolve, and I start this year so regretting what I did last year that I have absolutely cut it cold turkey. I refuse to use my powers, and Sylar wants me to, so he's constantly on my shoulder going, 'Use your powers, you p-ssy.' It's great. It's really cool."

Too bad Parkman doesn't have a good angel on his shoulder telling him not to listen to Sylar. "No, that's me, but I'm not strong enough. It's pretty great."

Heroes returns Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. on NBC.

More Heroes Redemption Updates

Whew. What a week for Heroes. A lot of news happened in Heroes universe for the past couple of days.

By the way, most of the news I got comes from heroeswiki so better check that site for more heroes updates.

First. Quin and Reed Baron, the actors that portrayed the role of Matt Parkman Jr, will be back. Earlier this year, the father of the twins, reported difficulties to set up an schedule for his sons due to a family vacation to Jamaica. He also stated that he was not canceling his trip and that NBC and Heroes may recast or replace the young actors. Read more. This news is in accordance with the story plot that Matt Parkman. Sources say that Matt will be starting a family again and he will be seeking redemption for the actions he did last season.

Second. Greg Grunberg confirmed on his twitter account last June 24th that he and Zachary Quinto were filming scenes together. His twitter message was
"Getting ready to go in and beat up on Sylar. I love working with Zach. Always brings his 'A' game!! But no match for Parkman...".

Third. Season 4 filming update. A news article in ODI says that a source from the set claims that in the first episode that Claire will find a dead body. Here is the description of the scene that was scheduled to be filmed: "Claire discovers a body on the sidewalk." This confirms the statement made by Tim Kring in Heroes All Access that there will be suicide that will happen in the campus.

And lastly, ODI said that it is already confirmed that Season 4 Episode 3 title would be "Acceptance".

Okay that's it for now. Feel free to drop a comment. Until next post.

BattleStar Galactica Actor Joins Heroes

Rick Worthy is an American actor and Star Trek veteran, having played several alien and one human role in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise.

He also appeared on the 2003 - 2009 re-imagined version of Battlestar Galactica as a Cylon (model number Four, often referred to as "Simon"). Recently he has also had a large role on ABC Family's Fallen miniseries.

Worthy is currently in negotiations for a recurring role on NBC's Heroes next season, playing the new partner of Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg) an experienced and capable Los Angeles cop and someone who Matt can lean on for advice.

Matt Jr Will Be Back on Heroes Season 4 : Redemption

Yes. You've heard it right! Matt Jr. will be back next Season. Matt Jr has the ability to turn things on and off. Also, he's the youngest person to display an evolved ability yet.

More of this cute baby on Redemption as Rod Baron, the father of Quin and Reed Baron, announced to members of the boys' fan club that they were needed for Season Four.

Do Matt and Janice Parkman have twins?

The answer is NO.

Quin and Reed Baron are twins in real life but they both act as Matt Jr. in Heroes. Why did they use twins in the first place? Here's a useful trivia from Beeman's blog.

Using babies on set is always a highly problematic thing in the first place. By law, their hours are very limited. I think a baby of that age can only be on set for a total of four hours – and can only work in front of the camera for one hour total. This is why productions always want to use twins. We saw three sets of twins for this project. We chose the little guys we did, partly because they were small for their age – but also because they had actually done a fair bit of work already. Believe it or not, these 10-month-old kids have already done recurring work on a soap opera and a number of commercials… Well, we really lucked out! First of all, both of them had the best temperaments. They never cried. They never looked at the camera – and, miraculously, they did all kinds of behavioral things exactly as scripted! This never happens! Usually, when filming babies – one can count on nothing except for the need to get a lot of gooey-cute close ups whenever the kids happen to be in a good mood.
Honestly, I didn't know this information until now.

Well this past few weeks, there are no update regarding Season 4. Except for the new character updates which you can find here. In fact, I got this trivia and Matt Parkman Jr. update in heroeswiki while searching for a new Heroes scoop.

On my next posts (after I post previous webisodes sponsored by Sprint), I will discuss some of my thoughts and speculation regarding the 4th installment of Heroes. Also, I will be posting the discussion thread in 9th Wonders as well as Oliver Grigsby's answers.

Until my next post. Feel free to post your comments.
