UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - November 19, 2009 - NBC's action-comedy series "Chuck" returns to the NBC lineup on Sunday, January 10 with all-new missions and two action-packed, back-to-back original episodes in its season premiere (9-11 p.m. ET) before the series -- starring Zachary Levi in the title role -- moves to its regular day and time (Mondays 8-9 p.m. ET) beginning January 11.

In addition, "Chuck" returns with guest stars galore in its third season. These include: Angie Harmon (NBC's "Law & Order"), who will play Sydney, an enemy operative; Brandon Routh ("Superman Returns"), who is set to play CIA Agent Daniel Shaw; Robert Patrick ("Terminator 2: Judgment Day") will play Colonel Keller, a soldier and spy from Casey's past; Kristin Kreuk ("Smallville"), who will portray Hannah -- a potential love interest for Chuck; Armand Assante ("Judge Dredd") as dictator Premier Goya, who is the target of an assassin; Steve Austin ("WWE Smackdown!") will portray Hugo Panzer, who becomes entangled in Chuck's first solo mission; and Vinnie Jones ("Snatch") will play Carl Stromberg, an arms dealer.

In other programming news, a special two-hour episode of "Heroes" will be broadcast on Monday, January 4 (8-10 p.m. ET) and then the series moves to its new time slot of Mondays (9-10 p.m. ET) starting January 11.

"Josh (Schwartz) and Chris (Fedak) and the writing team are doing a great job this season, and we think the loyal fan base for this show will be happy to see it back on the NBC schedule," said Angela Bromstad, President, Primetime Entertainment, NBC and Universal Media Studios.

In "Chuck," the world's nerdiest secret agent is back in the one-hour action-comedy series. Chuck Bartowski (Levi, "Less Than Perfect") continues as the Buy More electronics store computer geek, who unwittingly becomes the government's most vital secret agent. Chuck is transformed into the Intersect 2.0 after another data download into his brain. This time, he not only knows government secrets, but he is also well equipped with deadly fight skills. Chuck has the potential to become a real agent, but he has one problem -- his emotions. Now he faces the battle of keeping his emotions in check in order to protect himself and the people around him.

The ever stoic Colonel John Casey (Adam Baldwin, "My Bodyguard") returns with partner Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski, "Gone"), one of the CIA's top agents and Chuck's dream girl. As Chuck assumes his new role as the Intersect 2.0, Casey and Sarah need to protect him but also help him become the agent he is destined to be.

Also starring are: Joshua Gomez ("Without a Trace") as Morgan Grimes -- Chuck's best buddy; Sarah Lancaster ("What About Brian?") as Chuck's ever-supportive sister Ellie; Ryan McPartlin ("Living with Fran") as Devon Woodcomb (also known as "Captain Awesome"), Ellie's husband. Chuck's Buy More team consists of Big Mike (Mark Christopher Lawrence, "The Pursuit of Happyness") and the Nerd Herd, which includes Lester (Vik Sahay, "Time Bomb") and Jeff (Scott Krinsky, "The O.C.").

"Chuck" is co-created and written by Josh Schwartz ("The O.C., "Gossip Girl") and Chris Fedak, and is executive-produced by Schwartz, McG ("Charlie's Angels," "We Are Marshall"), Fedak, Allison Adler and Matthew Miller. "Chuck" is produced by College Hill Pictures, Wonderland Sound and Vision, in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Rumor : Heroes will end this season?!

We don't know yet if this rumor is true. No confirmation has been made on NBC's part so let's just hope that Heroes will not end this season. If it does, then it's really bad news for Heroes fans.

According to the source the inevitable is finally happening: Networks executives will ask "Heroes" producers to wind the series down, possibly with an overall finale by May.

"There isn't much happening with this show in terms of audience, and giving it a 'final chapter' feel is something the network is considering to help allow the show to go out with a bang," said the source, who asked not to be identified.

While the audience stuck it out in the beginning, that started to change by mid-season when the audience erosion began. It finished its second season with a 6.6 rating/10 share, however, second only to "Lost" among averages of overnight ratings from The Nielsen Co. for network genre shows.

However, by the 2008-09 season, "Heroes" fell to fifth among network genre shows, with a 4.7/7 average, down nearly 29 percent from the year before.

This year after seven episodes, "Heroes" is averaging a 3.6/5, more than 23 percent off from last year, and 45 percent off its pace from the second season. It's currently averaging as NBC's lowest-rated outing on Monday behind the 3.7/6 average of the now-canceled "Trauma" and the 4.4/7 of "The Jay Leno Show."

Of course, in the "Jay Leno" instance, his numbers were artificially boosted by an 11.0/18 premiere the week before the fourth season of "Heroes" started, and fell to a 3.8/6 the following week, and has hovered just above the 3.0 household rating mark ever since.

"Heroes" might not be the only one saying good-bye this season. With NBC looking for a firm finish in fourth place among all the networks once again, the new guard coming in is looking to really change things up, including possibly a completely revamped lineup that could include the reduction of hours devoted to "Jay Leno."

According to this source, "Heroes" is just not part of that mode.

"To keep a show like this going despite its numbers requires some nostalgic connection to it, and while there are a lot of people here who were part of bringing 'Heroes' to the air, they are not in the decision-making capacities," the source said.

One thing to stress, however, is that no final decision has been made yet, and likely won't be made until closer to mid-season. The source was not even clear if a wrap-up directive had been issued to "Heroes" quite yet. If it hasn't, it will.

"I don't think this should surprise anybody," the source said. "The writing has been on the wall for some time."

Airlock Alpha did request comment from NBC early Thursday afternoon, which is still pending. However, none of this has been confirmed by NBC quite yet, and should be treated as any rumor would.

Heroes Season 4 : Redemption Official Press Release

NBC has released the Official Press Release of Heroes Season 4 : Redemption. Please be warned that this might contain spoilers.

From creator/writer Tim Kring (”Crossing Jordan”) comes the award-winning “Heroes,” an epic drama that chronicles the lives of ordinary people who discover they possess extraordinary abilities.

On September 21, “Heroes” returns with its fourth season and a brand-new volume – “Redemption.” As the dust settles from last season, our heroes attempt to settle back into their ordinary lives. But, as they will quickly discover, it’s not easy to go home again. They will face one pressing question: how do extraordinary people lead ordinary lives?

Previously, in “Volume 4: Fugitives,” our heroes made an attempt to return to their normal lives – but that attempt was cut short when Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere) uncovered a deadly plot orchestrated by one of their own – Senator Nathan Petrelli (Adrian Pasdar). After revealing to the government that there were people with special abilities, Nathan spearheaded an initiative to capture and imprison those people and used Noah Bennet a.k.a. H.R.G. (Jack Coleman). Lives were torn apart. H.R.G.’s own marriage was destroyed. Tracy Strauss (Ali Larter) was killed — literally shattered into frozen pieces.

Ultimately, it was Nathan who paid the price for his misdeeds – murdered at the hands of Sylar (Zachary Quinto). Angela Petrelli (Cristine Rose), devastated at the loss of her son, and H.R.G., in need of an ally within the government, convinced Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg) to use his ability to repair the damage. Matt used mind control and forced Sylar to shapeshift into Nathan, while erasing Sylar’s own memories so he truly believed he was Nathan. Now, as far as everyone else knows, Nathan is alive and well. And Sylar is gone. But all of that is about to change…

This season, “Volume 5: Redemption” begins with our heroes putting their lives back together.

Claire is finding that her biggest challenges are forgetting her old life and starting college. How does someone who has led such an extraordinary life assimilate back into everyday college life? Any semblance of normalcy is shortly overturned when Claire’s roommate commits suicide and Claire discovers her new friend, Gretchen (guest star Madeline Zima), is hiding a secret herself.

Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka) goes back to his old life in Japan, but discovers that he has a terminal illness. When Hiro can no longer keep his illness hidden, he sets out to fulfill his own personal bucket-list – righting the mistakes of his past. But will Hiro be able to correct the errors of his ways without severely altering the past and present?

Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia) returns to work as an ordinary New York City EMT, but he uses his abilities to save lives. Peter has become obsessed, looking for redemption and shutting out the rest of the world he once knew. How can he forget the past and begin anew? Peter’s life will quickly change when a hearing impaired woman, Emma (guest star Deanne Bray), enters his life. Emma has used her disability as an excuse to shut herself off from the world. But as a new and unique ability manifests, the shell she’s built around herself will begin to crack apart – as will Peter’s.

H.R.G. is adjusting to life as a single man. Charged with creating a new company, he is rapidly discovering that he needs more from his life. But how does a company man become ordinary? And, when Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) returns and offers H.R.G. compelling evidence of a new danger, it makes H.R.G. wonder if he should get back in the game.

Tracy Strauss, having risen from the dead, is consumed with seeking vengeance, but soon realizes that she has a real opportunity to reinvent herself. The question is: who should she be?

Nathan Petrelli, not realizing who he really is, returns to the Senate and begins to notice strange changes in himself. Most alarming, Nathan discovers that he has new abilities. These changes are not lost on Angela, who recognizes them for what they truly are – the emergence of Sylar.

Meanwhile, racked by the guilt of what he did to Sylar and Nathan, Matt Parkman returns to life as an ordinary family man. All he wants to do is to raise his son, love his wife and return to a fulfilling career as an LAPD detective. But what Matt doesn’t know is that something unfamiliar is buried deep within his psyche – Matt can see and hear Sylar. And this specter will haunt him until Sylar is returned to his body.

The biggest challenge for our heroes is a strange and dangerous carnival comprised of a traveling band of outsiders with powerful abilities, led by a charismatic and powerful leader, Samuel (Robert Knepper). Alongside Samuel is his right hand man, Edgar (guest star Ray Park), a deadly Speedster with a talent for knives, and Lydia (guest star Dawn Olivieri) the Tattooed Lady.

Samuel leads his flock to intersect with the lives of all of our heroes. He will find them, and he will entice them to join him. And together, they will ask the same basic questions: Who are we? What does having powers mean to the world? How should we live our lives – shameful or proud? Should we hide or live out in the open? And if the world of powers is revealed, how will the world ever recover?

In 2009, “Heroes” has been honored with: a People’s Choice Award for Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show, a Teen Choice Award for Choice Action-Adventure Television Show, and a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series. Among its honors in past seasons, “Heroes” has garnered a People’s Choice Award, an AFI Award, a Multicultural Prism Award, a TV Land Future Classic Award, the Television Critics Association Awards’ Outstanding Program of the Year, the International Prize at the BAFTA Television Awards, and Choice TV Show Action Adventure at the Teen Choice Awards. In my previous article, Tim Kring announced that Heroes Season 4 will only have 19 episodes. If my calculations are correct, Heroes Season 4 will perhaps premiere on October 5, 2009.

Heroes Season 4 finale on February 2010.

According to Tim Kring, Heroes will run all its episodes in a row, without repeats, starting in September and running straight until the Winter Olympics. Also according to him, Heroes will have 19 episodes next season, down from the 25 episodes in Season 3.

Bryan Fuller will be back!

Two interesting things happened in Heroes's heroic struggle for viewers last week.

The episode, Cold Snap, in which the identity of the mysterious Rebel was revealed, was wonderful from start to finish. Brisk, witty, fast, with emotional highs and lows and enough twists for an entire season. It was a return to the Heroes of old.

The second thing that happened was that the ratings tumbled. Again.

Around 500,000 viewers in Canada witnessed Heroes's bid for renewal -- respectable, but far off the pace of Global's other shows on the night: 24, with a million viewers, give or take, and a rerun of House, with 1.7 million.

Numbers only tell part of the story, of course. What matters to a show's survival is not how many people are watching, but who. And the fact is Heroes appeals to busy, hard-to-reach younger viewers, who often watch online or by PVR.

The more interesting story is why Heroes was so good last week. It marked the return of original head writer Bryan Fuller, whose own show, Pushing Daisies, was recently cancelled.

Heroes proved last week that the script is indeed everything in TV: The characters were suddenly smarter, more articulate, funnier and more involved in their fates. The scenes were short and snappy and yet, despite the sudden urgency, it all came together in the end. Heroes made sense for once, and this bodes well for the series' future.

Heroes is confirmed to return in the fall, and by then Fuller will have had a chance to remake the show from scratch.

In tonight's episode, which Fuller had only a marginal hand in, reformed cheerleader Claire (Hayden Panettiere) and an on-the-run Nathan Petrelli (Adrian Pasdar) shack up in Mexico, while evil baddie Emile Danko (Zeljko Ivanek) goes on a murderous tear.

Fuller's future involvement means Heroes will be a very different show when it returns in the fall, and likely a better one.

For now, enjoy the early signs of a creative turnaround. It's not often that a TV series promises to get better, especially a complex, sci-fi tinged drama like Heroes. It happens once in a blue moon, you might say. 9 p.m. Global, NBC

New Ratings Low for 'Heroes'Despite the hype courtesy of returning season 1 producer Bryan Fuller, the latest episode of Heroes still failed to deliver – at least ratings-wise – as the NBC sci-fi series sinks to a new series low at 6.48 million viewers. It's a shame, however, as “Cold Snap” received generally positive feedback from critics, some commenting that it showcased the show's best writing since its sterling first season.

On that episode, the identity of Rebel was finally revealed (and most loved who it turned out to be), but more importantly, viewers noticed that the Heroes seemed more willing to use their powers, coupled with great acting, made the episode really stand out.

Despite the return of Heroes to its so-called first season glory, the slump in ratings in general have made some people consider whether Heroes would have been more successful if it was released as a limited series. Some television executives are, in fact, singling out “high-concept” sci-fi series, such as the NBC show, as perhaps better off if it ran for one or two seasons tops. Because of what's happening to Heroes, the peacock network is seriously thinking of a limited-run series for post-apocalyptic drama Day One. After all, the show comes from Heroes' Jesse Alexander slated for a fall premiere.

Another upcoming adventure series Harper's Island from CBS, for one, will wrap up in 13 episodes, as its premise is essentially that of whodunnit variety. If it gets picked up for more seasons, CBS vows to change characters and titles.

"It's a fictionalized Survivor," explains CBS Paramount Network TV head David Stapf. "If Survivor can work cycle in and cycle out with the same premise but different people, why can't a fictionalized show?"
